I gave my 100% in this year’s tournament. I especially thought of the kids from the F4L Team who also played at the Thirsty Football Cup because they always came to the pitch to support and cheer for us. I greatly appreciated those moments. I felt deeply honoured to be looked up to by these kids – they boosted my confidence and gave me strength to win. Whenever there was a penalty kick, I thought of them and how I should make them proud. So, every time I saved a goal and did my job as a goalkeeper, I felt more elated and deeply accomplished.
I honestly could not believe it when we got into the semifinals, and that we had even reached that stage because there were so many other players and teams who were better and more powerful than us. Regardless, I am proud of my team because all of us did our part to give our best game in order to win.
This year’s Thirsty Football Cup is really memorable to me. So, to my F4L team, I’m thankful for the entire experience you have given me as I learned a lot from it, and more importantly, I was able to inspire the kids I coach when they saw me play. I appreciate all of your support to us and for giving us this rare opportunity. I will do everything I could to pay it forward and bring out the best in the kids, especially those I coach – in football and in their holistic development.
