To show commitment and support in ensuring effective and quality education for children, FundLife International participated the Brigada Eskwela '19 Division kick off at Guadalupe Heights Integrated School (GHIS) on May 18, 2019, together with the two new Arsenal in the Community coaches.
Brigada Eskwela or the National Schools Maintenance Week is a nationwide initiative by the Department of Education (DepEd) that mobilizes thousands of parents, alumni, civic groups, local businesses, non-government organizations, teachers, students, and individuals who volunteer their time and skills to do repairs, maintenance work, and clean-up of public elementary and secondary schools.

This year’s Brigada Eskwela is anchored on the theme "Matatag na Bayan para sa maunlad na Paaralan.”

“We implement Brigada Eskwela to inculcate the Bayanihan Spirit. We also want to remind all sectors in the community about their responsibilities in the school, to maintain and secure the school environment and ensure that it is conducive for learning. This is also an opportunity to look into partnering with our stakeholders,” said Mr. Ivannovich Agote, Senior Education Program Specialist (SocMob) of the Department of Education, Tacloban Division.

One of the highlight of the activity was the signing of the MOU to extend the implementation of Football for Life Academy program for School year 2019-2020 and to cover five additional schools under the division.

Other Stakeholders like NGO representatives, local authorities, parents and the students for the Brigada Eskwela activities also gave their statement of support and witnessed the distribution of cleaning materials to GHIS.

“June 3 is the formal start of classes, teachers and the children will go directly to their respective classrooms and will start their lessons. I believe that we can only do this if we put our hearts and commitment in responding to this week-long activity, the Brigada Eskwela,” said Dr. Thelma C. Quitalig, Schools Division Superintendent of Tacloban City.

“The owner of the school is not the DepEd. The owner of the school is the community,” she emphasized.

In the program, FundLife was recognized as one of the most appreciated organizations for its consistent support towards the activities of DepEd.

After the program, all attendees participated in the cleaning activities in their assigned area inside the GHIS.
