FundLife Builds Responsible AI Capacity to Support Youth Learning

To strengthen meaningful digital learning and equip approximately 200 young people with knowledge and skills for the future, FundLife organized the AI Workshop: Chatbots, IEC, and Responsible Content Creation in Tacloban City, on July 7, 2026.

The workshop brought together FundLife staff, Youth Mentors, and Tech2Thrive completers from Eastern Visayas State University - Dulag Campus. Facilitated by Mr. Patrick Relles, MPRM, the session prepared participants to use artificial intelligence and digital tools more effectively, responsibly, and purposefully across FundLife’s 2026 - 2027 programmes.

 As AI becomes increasingly accessible, young people are encountering tools that can generate answers, images, and content within seconds. While these technologies can support learning and creativity, they can also produce inaccurate information, encourage overreliance, and raise concerns about privacy, source verification, and responsible use. Without proper guidance, young people may struggle to distinguish useful information from misleading content or understand the consequences of how these tools are used.

For FundLife, strengthening the capacity of staff and Youth Mentors is an essential first step before introducing AI-related learning to children and young people. Facilitators must understand both its potential and its limitations. The workshop was therefore designed not only to teach technical skills, but also to prepare participants in translating their learning to practical and responsible AI lessons in ways that are safer, clearer, and relevant to young learners.

During the session, participants worked in five teams, they have created Facebook Business Pages, developed Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials, explored responsible AI-assisted content creation, and built prototype chatbots. These hands-on activities strengthened participants’ ability to translate digital tools into practical learning sessions, equipping them to guide young people in creating meaningful, community-centered content as part of future programme implementation. 

The workshop also emphasized that effective digital communication is built on responsibility. Participants explored the importance of verifying information, citing credible sources, and using artificial intelligence ethically to strengthen trust within communities.

Reflecting on the responsible use of AI, facilitator Mr. Patrick Relles, MPRM reminded participants that technology should be used intentionally:

"AI can help us reach a higher level of productivity and get the job done faster. However, it also comes with responsibility. Every time we use generative AI, we consume valuable resources, including water. That's why we should use AI for significant, high-value activities rather than unnecessary ones."

His message encouraged participants to view AI not simply as a productivity tool, but as a resource that should be used thoughtfully and responsibly. Alongside discussions on fact-checking and source verification, the session reinforced that responsible innovation means considering both the quality of the information shared and the environmental resources required to generate it.

By investing in the people who will facilitate future learning, FundLife is laying the foundation for stronger and more responsible digital education across its 2026–2027 programmes. The knowledge and insights gained through this workshop will help shape learning experiences for approximately 200 young people, ensuring they develop not only digital and AI skills, but also the critical thinking, ethical awareness, and sense of responsibility needed to use technology in ways that strengthen their communities and help every child thrive.
