On May 4, 2022, FundLife Tacloban officially launched the Boys Community League at the Tacloban City Engineering Office (CEO) Gym. With this kickoff, many boys have expressed their excitement for this initiative, as they have been looking forward to it for a long time.
FundLife understands the power of sport and how it can create a positive impact on a child and an entire community. With this belief, the Boys Community League was born. The Boys Community League (BCL): Developmental Futsal League for Boys is an initiative where boys can be empowered by building their character and developing their life skills through organized football games. These games promote equal opportunities for girls and boys on the playing field and in real life.
A total of 22 teams registered for the league, which comprised three categories: 15 years old and under, 18 years old and under, and 21 years old and under. During the official launch and Match Day 1, 126 players from Tacloban City and Leyte showed up and gave their best in their games.
Present at the event were Sir Rufino Almaden of Tanauan School of Craftsmanship and Home Industries (TSCHI), who led the Oath of Commitment to the league by stakeholders, and Sir Raul Hilvano, the principal for Kapuso Village Integrated School, who joined in the ceremonial kick. Both joined the coaches in the exhibition games.
One of the players, Reymart, also led the others in reciting the Oath of Players’ Commitment to the league. Marlo, 17, a long-time player for FundLife, expressed how happy he was when he first heard of FundLife’s efforts to launch the Boys Community League. Marlo looks forward to improving his futsal skills and developing his character throughout the league, especially on respecting the other players on and out of the pitch, camaraderie, and self-confidence.
After the exhibition game of the coaches, 22 matches were facilitated throughout the whole day. It was an intense fight among the teams, especially in the 21 and under category. Some teams also lined up delightedly at the photo booth to have their photos taken.
