As part of the Xylem Water Heroes Project, FundLife organized a Two -Day Capacity Building Session that focused on Food and Water-Borne Diseases and Water Sanitation on February 15 and 16, 2024 at the El Palacio Restaurant and Function Hall, Tacloban City.
The two-day seminar-workshop was attended by 33 public school teachers from Tacloban City and Libertad Elementary School in Palo, Leyte as well as multiple FundLife Youth Mentors. The activity was aimed at equipping the teachers and the youth mentors with the right information needed to design play-based sessions for children about the seminar’s topic– water, sanitation, and hygiene. Ms. Jenny Anne Llosa, Nurse and Sanitary Inspector from the Tacloban City Health Office, served as the resource speaker on the first day. She discussed the different food and water-borne diseases and the different tools and tasks that can be done to prevent them. She also emphasized the importance of access to clean water and nutritious food– which contributes greatly to the health of both children and adults; impacting their daily lives.
On the second day of the workshop the teachers and FundLife Youth Mentors prepared activities that would best transfer the knowledge they gained from the seminar through football and other fun activities, ensuring that the information is both easy to absorb and enjoyable to learn. They also demonstrated to the group how best to facilitate the activities and the discussion. The team which presented the best set of activities based on a set criterion (creative, inclusive, and gender sensitive) received a cash prize from FundLife.
The attendees also received water disinfectants from the City Health Office as a token of participation.
