FundLife is tremendously excited to share the launch of the Girls Community League (GCL), which will work alongside our existing FFLA and FLA programming to use the power of play to educate, inspire, empower girls (and boys) to reach their full potential, while kicking the UN Global Goals into action!
Taking our core belief that football, as the world’s most watched, played and most profitable sport has the unique ability to bring together, inspire and foster positive social change, the GCL will work to communicate this to a global audience – with a very specific focus on empowering girls for gender equality.
Leveraging the UN Global Goals, the GCL will put the global goals on the agenda for communities where they are needed the most. Using our existing community-led approach, the GCL will empower and inspire girls (and boys) through regular access to games, equipment, on-going mentorship, access to real-life role models and the delivery of real-skills and employability training.
With support from FIFA Foundation, UEFA Foundation and the Supreme Committee for the World Cup 2022 Qatar, the GCL launched in Tacloban on Feb 9th, where FundLife has been working since 2014, supporting children living in short-term and chronic emergencies. Over coming months, it will launch across the Philippines through our development partners to support girls and boys living in acute and extreme poverty, as well as children at greatest risk of sexual exploitation and interregional conflict.
