Tacloban City, May 27-28, 2025 — FundLife International took another bold step in advancing its advocacy for environmental sustainability by hosting a two-day Environmental Sustainability Training Workshop. The workshop brought together Youth Mentors, Teachers, and Youth Leaders from across FundLife’s partner schools and communities, with the goal of deepening their understanding of sustainability and equipping them to pass that knowledge on to young learners.

The training featured expert insights from Ms. Iris Anne Jaingue, former Local Organization President of JJC Waraynon (2024), and Mr. Jez Adrian Trinidad, Immediate Past Area Vice President of JJC Philippines. Both delivered dynamic and engaging sessions across the two-day workshop.

The first day of the workshop opened with Ms. Jaingue’s session on digital storytelling as a tool for eco-awareness. She introduced simple and accessible ways to use videos and mobile apps to promote environmental responsibility, especially among youth audiences.

In the afternoon, Mr. Trinidad led two compelling discussions. The first tackled local environmental issues and the broader challenges of climate change and climate justice, highlighting how marginalized communities are often the most vulnerable to ecological degradation. His second session focused on core sustainability principles, including the concept of the circular economy, encouraging participants to think beyond traditional consumption and waste cycles.

On the second day, participants transformed their newfound knowledge into action by beginning to develop their own session plans, which they will soon implement with children and youth across FundLife’s various partner sites. These sessions will aim to raise environmental awareness and inspire community action at the grassroots level.

This workshop is part of FundLife’s ongoing effort to capacitate its frontline mentors and partners, ensuring that those who work closest with young people are equipped with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to promote sustainability in meaningful and creative ways.

“I was able to gain an in-depth understanding of environmental sustainability and how our everyday actions have environmental implications,” said Coach Daniel, FundLife Youth Mentor. “Being a part of this session makes me confident in delivering my sessions since I am more equipped with knowledge and information about environmental sustainability,” he added.

FundLife extends its deepest gratitude to JJC Waraynon and its speakers for their time, expertise, and shared commitment to environmental advocacy. Together, we continue to create pathways for youth to not only dream in colour—but also to protect the world they dream in.
