Bridging the Gap; 7th Annual Sama-Sama Games unites youth to promote greater access to opportunity

FundLife’s annual festival, the Sama-Sama Games took place in Cebu on Dec 9th, bringing together almost 600 players through the power of football.

The annual festival, now its 7th year was the biggest yet, inviting over 80 teams from across the Philippines for the largest ever futsal event alongside a 2-day educational workshop for 24 young leaders from marginalised communities.

To promote gender equality and increase community participation, there are nine (9) different categories from Under 7s to Under 18s for the festival with over 250 female players taking part. Unlike traditional football tournaments, the Sama-Sama Games promoted equal opportunity through harmony, dignity and equality by having 36 trophies up for grabs for the 72 teams joining – increasing participation and opportunity for all players, regardless of skill.

Alongside its main activities, the festival also celebrated the launch of the Community Football Girls League to promote greater access to sport and education for girls living in at-risk communities.

This year, the festival was supported by Generation Amazing, a football-focused corporate social development programme of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, Qatar’s delivery and legacy authority for the 2022 FIFA World Cup™, who has been a supporter of Fundlife since April 2018.
