Last Saturday, March 21, 2026, 137 runners laced up not just for fitness, but for a cause bigger than themselves. Through the Move for Equity (MFE) Community Run, the community collectively covered an inspiring 754.6 kilometers, each step a powerful statement in support of young girls’ right to move, play, and thrive.
From early morning strides to strong finishes, the run united 76 male and 61 female participants in a shared mission: to champion equity through sport. It was more than numbers; it was a visible, moving testament that when communities come together, change becomes possible.
Participants had the choice to take on either the 3.8 KM or 8.3 KM route, and both categories saw remarkable engagement. A total of 85 runners completed the 3.8 KM distance, contributing 323 kilometers, while 52 runners pushed further through the 8.3 KM route, adding an impressive 431.6 kilometers. Together, these distances formed a collective impact that reached far beyond the finish line.
But what made the run truly meaningful was the spirit behind it. Co-organized with DNHS-EnduRuns, a school-based running club, the initiative brought together students, youth leaders, and local stakeholders from Dulag National High School, EVSU Dulag Campus, PYAP Dulag Chapter, and the Local Government Unit of Dulag. This collaboration highlighted how different sectors can unite around a common goal, creating safe and empowering spaces for girls through sport.
Support from various local offices and frontline services ensured the success and safety of the event. The commitment of LGU Dulag, the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, BLGU Combis, the Dulag Emergency Response and Rescue Unit, the Traffic Enforcement and Management Office, the Philippine National Police, and the Bureau of Fire Protection Dulag Fire Station reflected a strong, community-wide investment in youth development and gender equity.
At its core, Move for Equity is more than a run; it is a movement. It recognizes that for many girls, access to sport is not always guaranteed. Barriers such as social norms, lack of safe spaces, and limited opportunities continue to exist. Yet, initiatives like this remind us that these barriers can be challenged, one stride at a time.
In Dulag, every kilometer tells a story of solidarity, of hope, and of a future where every girl is given the chance to lead, grow, and thrive. And as the final runners crossed the finish line, one thing was clear: this was not the end of a race, but the continuation of a shared journey toward equity.
