As part of Tacloban City’s annual fiesta celebration, the 3rd Sangyaw National Open Football 8-Aside Tournament was held on June 21–22, 2025, at the PFF - EVRFA Regional Training Center in Brgy. 103 Palanog. The event featured ten categories, drawing teams from across the Philippines.
FundLife’s One Tacloban Football Club participated in the U14 Boys and U18 Girls divisions, represented by youth from partner schools. Selected for their strong performance, active engagement, and leadership potential, these players reflect FundLife’s commitment to promoting equal access to sports opportunities for children from underserved communities.
Levelling the Playing Field for All Children
The participation of FundLife-supported players was particularly significant, as many of them face financial barriers and lack access to basic playing equipment, which often excludes them from similar events. Through FundLife’s targeted support and partnerships, these children were provided the opportunity to engage in competitive play, promoting their personal development, leadership, and social inclusion.
“It was an amazing experience to be part of the tournament. We had the chance to play against strong teams and talented players, which helped me learn and grow as an athlete.” — Nigel, 13
The U14 Boys team, composed of players aged 12–13, competed with heart in the elimination round, playing two matches. While they did not advance to the next stage, their determination and teamwork stood out on the pitch.
The U18 Girls team—young women aged 14–17—played four competitive matches, drawing twice and losing twice. Though they also did not qualify for the next round, the experience was transformative.
“This experience has inspired us to keep improving. Playing in the tournament showed us what we’re capable of and motivated us to become even better players.” — Susanne, 14
Beyond the Scoreboard: Building Confidence and Community

At FundLife, we believe that success isn’t only measured by wins, but by the opportunities we create for children to thrive. Events like the Sangyaw Tournament are a powerful reminder of how inclusive sports can change lives, building confidence, encouraging teamwork, and strengthening a sense of belonging.
These moments—where children proudly wear their team colors, play alongside their peers, and hear their names cheered from the sidelines—leave a lasting imprint. They remind our players that they matter, that their dreams are valid, and that their future is worth investing in.
