Former Danish International Football player and current Bundesliga Coach, Bo Svensson, will support children in the Philippines through his Common Goal pledge.
The FSV Mainz 05 head Coach selected FundLife as the organization to where he would like his 1% pledge to be directed. The announcement provides wonderful news for FundLife during what has been a very difficult 18 months, which has seen all regular play sessions halted and schools closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition to his financial contribution, Svensson, has also indicated a personal interest to help youth coaches and players in the Football for Life Academy (FFLA) programme, which uses football to support vulnerable children to stay in school and deliver vital life skills for their development.
Explaining his motivation for joining common goal, Svensson said "There is more to being human than being good at kicking a ball. In today’s day and age, it’s important to understand that there is more to football than what is happening at the elite level”.
Svensson’s commitment strengthens the partnership between Common Goal and FundLife, which has already seen Former Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United football player, Shinji Kagawa, visit communities in Tacloban in June 2019. Common Goal has also supported FundLife's COVID-19 relief efforts to ensure children are staying safe and in learning despite the ongoing education emergency that has seen schools closed for over 530 days.
While it might still be a long way off, everyone at FundLife is optimistic that once the COVID-19 situation improves and travel restrictions are lifted, Svensson could visit the Philippines to see children in action and share his knowledge to improve their game on and off the field!
