FundLife with DepEd Tacloban, Organized Consultation Meeting with 16 Partner Schools under FFLA

Before 2023 ends, Fundlife invited its partner schools under the Football for Life Academy Project (FFLA) to share project updates and gather feedback from the school heads and focal persons present during the event. The Presentation of Accomplishments and Consultation Meeting was held last December 12, 2023 at the DepEd Tacloban City Division Office.

Ms. Kimberly C. Lopez, FundLife’s Head of Operations, presented the actual number of activities such as study support sessions, after-school football sessions, mentorships,  tournaments, and learning festivals delivered to the schools vis a vis the targeted number of sessions for the three-year project. Ms. Lopez raised the possibility of  increasing the frequency of sessions every week so that the children can participate more.

In addition to sharing general accomplishments, FundLife Youth Mentors and Cluster Heads also reported the number of children and adults engaged in the program and shared the significant changes they have observed since the FFLA Project Kick Off in September/October. One of the Youth Mentors emphasized the importance of having a dedicated learning space as he saw firsthand children getting excited to go to the reading corner and just sit and read. Having a space also helped attract more students to join the FFLA Program.

During the break out portion of the program, the focal persons and the school heads sat down with the youth mentors to identify and address top three challenges in the implementation. For example, to address the decreasing number of participants, the schools are suggesting to expand the criteria in participant selection. The school heads also allowed make-up sessions during weekends and holidays as long as they are informed beforehand and parental consent forms are properly secured.

Sir Jaime Leon Cardona- the Assistant Schools Division Superintendent, in his short message, highlighted the importance of partnership in improving the learning outcomes of the students. Before the closing of the event, Ms Lopez also shared Fundlife’s upcoming projects which will greatly benefit the students from the FFLA schools.

The meeting ended with a number of shared learnings and concrete steps to better the program in the upcoming months. FundLife and DepEd are set to have their next Presentation Meeting and Year End Review in June 2024.
