FundLife celebrated International Women’s Month by launching a campaign called Move For Equity which directed attention towards the work of Girls Got This. Girls Got This is an action-led movement that uses the power of play to protect, educate, and empower vulnerable girls so they will have access to quality education and dignified employment opportunities.
Through a total of 25 community-led, decentralized pop-ups between March 5 until March 26, 2023, we were able to engage and raise awareness among 518 movers in Tacloban across 17 schools/communities.
On March 8, International Women’s Day, FundLife organized a pop-up run at the Leyte Sports Development Center (Grandstand) which was also participated by members of JJC Waraynon, as well as athletes from different varsity teams. Everyone who participated covered 3.8 kilometers either by running or by walking.
For Anthony Hitomi, JJC Waraynon’ s Community Development Commissioner, “Fundlife’s Move For Equity was a great example of how women can show their support for advocacies that aim to empower them. It was great to see a lot of men participating in such a campaign which counters the negative stereotype that men don’t care. But to see them active in the call for women’s rights and girls’ equitable participation and access to education, is progress. Overall, Move for Equity was a great experience because it stirred people up physically and mentally.”
Moreover, FundLife teachers and coaches led several pop-up runs in different partner schools and communities located in northern barangays in Tacloban, as well as in Palo and in Dulag. Prior to walking, Sir Mark Renzo Bactol, FundLife Youth Mentor, facilitated a Gender Sensitivity Training among elementary and high schools students he was handling: “
It’s very important to have gender sensitivity training especially for very young kids so that they will understand that different people have different ways of expressing themselves. And regardless of these differences, regardless of someone’s gender, everyone deserves to be respected.”
Move for Equity Campaign’s culminating activity was held in Barangay Cabalawan, Tacloban last March 25, 2023 during a Zumba and Fun Run organized by the Sangguniang Kabataan 97. The morning zumba and 3.8 walk/run across San Juanico Bridge were participated by youth, members of the barangay council, members of the PNP, as well as FundLife staff and coaches. The first 10 finishers, all males, were recognized. Coach Daryll Villamor Senior Coach from Fundlife also received a special award as the first female finisher.
