For more than a decade, FundLife has worked with children and youth, and by extension, their families. Through this work, it has become increasingly clear that improving outcomes for children cannot be separated from the wellbeing of the parents and caregivers who nurture them every day. In contexts like Eastern Visayas, where 27.3% of the population lives below the poverty line and facilities continue to face the long-term impact of disasters, strengthening families requires intentional investment in those who care for young children.

This opportunity came through the Good Start Challenge, which called for innovations that aim to relieve stress among parents and caregivers. In response, FundLife launched the Parent Play Pods Leyte (P3 Leyte) in partnership with the Local Government of Dulag. P3 Leyte is  a community-based initiative designed to support parents not only as caregivers, but as individuals navigating financial pressure, social stigma and limited access to services.

At the heart of P3 Leyte are pod-like parent sessions that provide a safe and supportive space for parents and caregivers to come together. These sessions are intentionally designed to address the key drivers of parental stress and wellbeing, focusing on practical topics such as managing daily pressures, strengthening emotional coping, understanding child behavior, supporting early learning, and building healthy family routines. Each session integrates guided reflection and emotional check-ins, creating space for parents to process their experiences, reduce feelings of isolation, and develop peer support networks. Over time, these spaces will help parents and caregivers experience reduced emotional stress, stronger social connection, and increased confidence in their caregiving roles.

Running alongside these parent sessions are parallel play activities for children aged 0–6, facilitated by FundLife Mentors, Day Care Teachers, and Barangay Health Workers. This integrated approach addresses one of the most common barriers to participation, the lack of safe childcare, allowing parents to engage fully while ensuring their children benefit from structured, developmentally appropriate play.

Building on this foundation, P3 Leyte also integrates pathways to economic empowerment. Through Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) -accredited Bread and Pastry training, digital skills sessions, and employment orientation, caregivers are supported to access income opportunities and improve household stability. This responds directly to the reality that financial insecurity is a key driver of parental stress and a major barrier to sustained child wellbeing.

Parent Play Pods Leyte reflects a clear and evidence-informed approach: when caregivers are supported emotionally, socially, and economically, they are better able to provide stable, nurturing environments for their children. As the model is tested and refined, FundLife aims to scale P3 Leyte to reach at least 1,000 additional parents and caregivers across Leyte and neighboring communities, particularly adolescent and vulnerable families. By strengthening both parental wellbeing and local delivery systems, P3 Leyte contributes to more resilient families and more sustainable community-based support for early childhood development.
