TACLOBAN CITY, LEYTE — The Move for Equity MFE Community Run Tacloban Chapter, held on March 28, 2026, at the Old Capitol Grounds, Tacloban City, emerged as a huge success for the city, mobilizing a total of 393 participants both online and onsite in a powerful collective action for gender equality and inclusive opportunities through sport.

The combined participation included 197 females, 195 males, and 1 non-binary participant, reflecting a strong and diverse community united in creating safe and empowering spaces for young people especially girls, to move, play, and lead.

Collectively, participants recorded an impressive 1,129.6 kilometers, showcasing not only physical endurance but a shared commitment to equity and inclusion. Online participants completed either the 3.8-kilometer or 8.3-kilometer categories, with 44 movers contributing 167.2 kilometers in the 3.8 KM category and 125 movers covering 1,062.4 kilometers in the 8.3 KM category.

More than the numbers, the event highlighted the power of community engagement. The strong participation of women and girls alongside men and boys underscored a collective understanding that creating inclusive spaces is a shared responsibility. The integration of both onsite and online participation also demonstrated how the movement continues to grow, making it more accessible for individuals to take part and contribute regardless of location.

The initiative was made possible through the support and collaboration of the City Government of Tacloban, the Provincial Government of Leyte, and DITO Telecommunity, together with various local offices that contributed to the successful implementation of the run. Their involvement reflects a growing network of partners committed to advancing equity through community-driven initiatives.

At its core, the Move for Equity Community Run is more than just a physical activity. It is a platform that uses sport as a tool to raise awareness, spark conversations, and inspire action. Through initiatives like this, communities are reminded that access to safe spaces for play, movement, and growth is not a privilege but a right, especially for young girls who continue to face barriers in participation.

For many participants, every step taken symbolized more than distance. It represented solidarity with young people who deserve equal opportunities and a belief that change can start through simple, collective action. Whether running individually or alongside peers, participants became part of a larger movement working towards a more inclusive future.

The success of the Tacloban Chapter sends a strong message that when communities come together with a shared vision, meaningful impact follows. It reinforces the idea that sport can go beyond competition and become a powerful vehicle for empowerment, leadership, and social transformation.

As the movement continues to build momentum, Tacloban stands as a powerful example of what is possible when people move with purpose. With every kilometer recorded and every participant engaged, the community takes another step forward in building a future where every young person, especially every girl, has the opportunity to move freely, play confidently, and lead without limitations.

This is not just a milestone. This is a movement.
